After mostly minor increases and some decreases in 2018, home values rose by greater margins across the Cy-Fair area in 2019, according to data from the Harris County Appraisal District.
HCAD officials also said homes that sustained damage during Hurricane Harvey could see up to a 21% increase in appraised value this year.
State tax code normally does not allow the appraised value of a home to increase more than 10% per year. However, because some Harvey-damaged homes were granted a reprieve from value increases in 2018, HCAD can add 10% per year to the pre-Harvey 2017 value.
The window to file a protest had not closed for all properties as of July, and the total number of protests filed in 2019 was still being evaluated as of press time, HCAD officials said.
